The Osgoode Rideau U15T1 Senators started their season off with a thrilling win at the Carleton Place Tournament this weekend.
The boys played so well as a team and got key contributions from each player throughout the tournament. The Senators won their round-robin matchups against the Kanata Kobras (5-3), Cumberland Dukes (3-1), and Ottawa North (3-2); scoring the winners in the third period of each game.
In the semis, they jumped out to an early lead against the Metcalfe Jets and never looked back, cruising to a 6-0 win. In the finals, they faced off against the Blackburn Stingers, who had also won all their games. The Stingers started strong and opened the scoring early. The Senators fought back to tie the game as Charlie Polite finished off a beautiful passing play with Nathan Niccolini and Jack MacArthur. After the Stingers went back ahead late in the first, Isaac Dyment started the second with a couple of goals on the first shift to put the Senators on top for the first time that game. But the Stingers came back to tie things up in the last minute of the second to set up a thrilling third period. Both teams traded chances in the third, but Senators goalie Alex Blue and the Stinger goalie both stood on their heads to keep it tied. However, with 2:54 left in the third period, Nash Andersen skated in from the high slot and found the loose puck at the hash marks and buried it top corner to give the Senators the lead and a 4-3 win!
